On the morning of January 11, Lu Jing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of the university, came to our College to research and guide the work, accompanied by Shi Xin, vice president, and the heads of Academic Affairs Office, College of Transport and Communications, Merchant Marine College and other departments, members of our College team, subject leaders and the director of College English Teaching department attended the meeting.
Zhu Yaobin, secretary of the Party Committee of the College, expressed a warm welcome to President Lu and his team to guide the work of the College. The College will, under the guidance of the school leaders and relevant functional departments, do a good job in the comprehensive reform of college English teaching, and take this opportunity to further optimize and integrate the faculty of the College. The reform should provide language services and support for the construction of a high-level maritime university with global influence.
At the meeting, Professor Zhang Yan reported on the comprehensive reform program of college English teaching, introducing the reasons, objectives, and specific contents of the comprehensive reform of college English teaching.
After listening to the report, President Lu Jing affirmed the content of the reform program and emphasized that the reform program should be goal-oriented, and should clarify the standards that our graduates’ English proficiency should reach and form a systematic evaluation system. It should be combined with the school’s orientation, improve the credit reform and curriculum system construction, and deepen the tiered teaching.
Vice President Shi Xin pointed out that the reform of college English teaching should be combined with the characteristics of the Shanghai Maritime University, and the Academic Affairs Office and all colleges should actively participate in the development and implementation of the reform program, so as to form a framework for teaching college English that meets the needs of different majors with the goal-oriented approach.
After the meeting, the participants of our college, according to the spirit of the speech of President Lu Jing and Vice President Shi Xin, carefully studied and discussed the reform program of college English teaching, and will further revise and improve the reform program with the actual practice of the College.
