In order to improve the quality of students' training and enhance their career planning literacy and ability, Professor Zhang Yan, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, gave a lecture on Career Choice of Foreign Language Undergraduates in the New Situation and the Synergistic Development of Social Situation to 2019 undergraduates in the afternoon of August 28.
During the lecture, Prof. Zhang analyzed and introduced four aspects: the characteristics of foreign language disciplines, the intention to seek employment after graduation, the social development situation and the employment of undergraduate students. She said that English is the official language of shipping as stipulated by the International Maritime Organization, and it has a broad development prospect for professional study, practice and further study and employment relying on the school platform. At the same time, President Zhang emphasized that the shipping industry is recovering day by day and the recruitment demand of shipping logistics enterprises is increasing, so she suggested that everyone should change the concept of job hunting and take the examination for public service and editorial as the career choice instead of a single career goal, and actively join the shipping logistics career of the motherland. President Zhang also gave a detailed explanation of the postgraduate training program, international cooperation, integration of industry and education, and the development of graduates, so that the undergraduate students had a more in-depth understanding of applying for the postgraduate majors of the college.
Mr. Liu Zhi encouraged everyone to study and comprehend the content of Dean Zhang's lecture seriously, emphasizing the need to focus on professional certificates to empower personal development. At the same time, they should recognize the current employment situation, lower the criteria and expectations of career selection, improve the success rate of graduate school and employment, and make reasonable planning for graduation and job hunting in their fourth year.
