On the afternoon of November 10, 2022, He Li, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the university, and Yu Hongrong, executive vice minister of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, visited the College of Foreign Languages and attended the meeting held by the College to promote the construction of the Understanding Contemporary China course series. Secretary Li Pingyou pointed out that the purpose of the Understanding Contemporary China series of teaching materials is to integrate Xi Jinping's Socialist Thought with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the core curriculum of foreign language majors in reading, writing and translation in a comprehensive and systematic way, and to help students consolidate their basic skills in foreign languages. While improving the ability to read, write, speak and translate in foreign languages, they master the discourse system of Chinese characteristics and improve the ability to tell Chinese stories in foreign languages and interpret Chinese practices with Chinese theories. It is of great help to cultivate high-quality international foreign language talents who have a sense of home and country, a global vision and professional skills. Dean Zhang Yan started from the proposition of foreign language and literature discipline that the mission of the discipline lies in telling the Chinese story and spreading the Chinese voice, striving to show the three-dimensional and real China. The textbook series Understanding Contemporary China can train students how to disseminate authentic and rigorous concepts, voices and ideas of Chinese thought in a foreign language and in a way that audiences can understand and accept, which is the need of the current times. Vice President Guo Haixia gave a detailed report on the use of the Understanding Contemporary China textbook series, the summer teacher training, organizational management and institutional construction, as well as faculty strength and construction initiatives, one by one. After that, four teachers, Sui Xiaojing, Chen Yefei, Song Zhiping and He Lichao, representing teachers in the course, reported and exchanged their views in the form of lectures.
